Sunday 7th July 2019 – Late-Victorian Britain, Holst and Thaxted; and Social Justice. To provide a context for Dr Williams’ visit on Friday 12th July, we are planning a presentation, to be held in the Parish Rooms of St Anne’s on Sunday, 7th July, 2019, from 6.30 to 8.00pm. Howard Bailes will give a thirty-minute talk, generously illustrated, on the world in which Conrad Noel grew up – Britain and its Empire during the late nineteenth-century – and on Holst and Thaxted. This will be followed by a presentation on social justice by Claudine McCreadie and Christopher Stephens. Finally, we shall show a short except from Tony Palmer’s outstanding documentary on Holst, In the Bleak Midwinter. We are very grateful to Mr Palmer for permission to show this part of his film. We will end the evening with bubbly and nibbles. We would be delighted if you were able to attend this occasion.
