The circular floor surround will be of two contrasting Portland stones, one containing fossils the other plain to match the font.
The engraved design of waves and 12 fish represent the River Jordan where Christ was baptised. You have to walk through the river to reach the font.
The river of life flows from the throne of God, depicted in the Christ of Glory circular east window, the nave around the Font to the West Door. It provides a creative disturbance.
The paving stones of the roundel are laid out to repeat the pattern of the fanlight of the West window above the gallery.
It is sealed and provide a non-slip surface. Portland Stone belongs to the Crown, which is most appropriate for this historic Church, which came about through Royal patronage.
